London Day 3

Headed into the city and visited the Houses of Parliament.
Amazing building, we started off in the Westminster Hall which was constructed in 1016.
The amazing roof trusses with their huge carved angels are made of solid oak. The angels are all slightly different as each one was carved by a different carpenter.
Many of the trusses are covered in scaffolding while they are repaired.
No nails, all mortised and doweled.

This photo while not a good one gives a sense of scale.

We had a wander around the parliament, quick cup of coffee in the Cafe with Theresa, who very pleased to see us, had a brexit biscuit and then spent an hour in the public gallery of the House of Commons which was sitting at the time. Some interesting debates, sounded a bit like Australia with the 'We are the World leaders in renewable energy blah, blah'.
Great thing about Parliament, it's free, even the toilets.
This photo is St. Stephen's Hall.

On the way out Steven had a chat with a local protester.
Just to agree about Supermarket stupidity when it comes to plastic packaging, it is a lot worse in England than it is in Tasmania.

From there we went to Soho and had lunch at an Italian restaurant, fabulous food.
Then made our way to Baker Street to see what Gerry Rafety was talking about. Nice part of town, possibly making a bit too much of the Sherlock Holmes name, Holmes everything including a laundromat. Found the Beatles shop and bought a tee shirt.

We walked all the way from Baker Street to the West End via Trafalgar Square and went to see a live performance of Mama Mia, it was brilliant, as was the Novello Theatre.
That's two shows in a row Steven has stayed awake through. Probably a record.

After the show we decided to walk home and do a bit of night photography. London 11.00pm.

And at a few places along the way, a beer was consumed.
