Manchester - 17th June
Got up at the crack of noon
Headed into the city of Manchester.
We went to the Cathedral, it is brilliant.
Construction of the Cathedral was started in 1421 and took 100 years to build. There was a church on the site before this that probably dated back to the 1000's, it is mentioned in Domesday book.
The Cathedral was badly damaged in WW2 when it was bombed. Here is the photo of the bombed bit, the statue suffered two lost fingers and a damaged knee.
In 1996 the IRA set off a bomb in the city centre, over 200 people were injured. After the explosion which blew out windows within an 800 metre radius, the only thing not damaged was this mail box.
There was another attack on the city in 2017 when a suicide bomber killed 22 people at a concert in the city.
These domes are an example of air pollution, each dome is going to have the air from different polluted cities from around the world pumped into it. Manchester has some of the most polluted air in England.
We wandered around the city and it's pubs for a few hours.
