Skipton - 23rd June

After breakfast we went to visit Mark's Mum and Dad who is also Steven's Stepmum's sister, so many interesting stories.

Matilda created some nice artwork on the campervan before we left.

Then we said our goodbyes to Mark, Michelle and Matilda and  headed off towards Lancaster. We had some lunch and got some fuel and three hours later we said goodbye to Mark, Michelle and Matilda again and headed off, this time with Tammy's laptop charger.

We drove through some lovely countryside and stopped off at Skipton to have a look at the castle.
It's one of the best preserved medieval castles in England.
Skipton castle survived a three year siege in the civil war and was the last fortress in the north to hold out for King Charles.
The famous Yew tree that stands in the Conduit Court was planted by Lady Anne Clifford as a sampling in 1659.

We went down to the dungeon, it was dark and cold.
Mary Queen of Scots was temporarily held prisoner in the castle.

We then had a wander around the streets of Skipton and walked besides the canal, lot's of lovely buildings in Skipton.

Headed up into the Yorkshire Dales and found a great railway viaduct that was built in 1875.

We drove back down towards Lancaster past some farm buildings with stone roof tiles and huge stone corners, these are called quoins.

It was getting too late to find a caravan park so we stopped in a car park that had toilets for the night.
